Akums announces launch of DCGI approved Triple Therapy for H. pylori infection

Delhi-based Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals has announced the development of a DCGI-approved Clarithromycin + Vonoprazan + Amoxicillin Combikit for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in adults.

The development is part of the company's ongoing work in pharmaceutical formulation and reflects the growing focus within healthcare on treatment approaches that consider both therapeutic requirements and the practical aspects of completing a prescribed regimen.

H. pylori infection is associated with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease and is recognised as an important risk factor for gastric cancer. Effective eradication of the infection is therefore an important therapeutic objective and can help reduce infection-related complications.

The combikit combines Vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB), with Clarithromycin and Amoxicillin. Vonoprazan provides sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion, while the two antibiotics provide complementary antibacterial action against H. pylori. The prescribed regimen involves twice-daily dosing over a period of 14 days.

The formulation brings the three components together in an organised treatment pack containing Clarithromycin 500 mg, Vonoprazan 20 mg and Amoxicillin 1000 mg. The formulation also provides the full 1000 mg dose of Amoxicillin in one tablet.

The announcement comes at a time when the pharmaceutical industry is placing greater emphasis on patient-centred approaches to healthcare. In combination therapies, the organisation and administration of treatment can be an important consideration alongside the therapeutic properties of individual medicines.
