Short course on clinical research for students

The Academy will conduct in conjunction with NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur a short-term (3 days) research training workshop titled "Foundation Workshop on Clinical and Laboratory Medicine Research"

The workshop, which will be held in the NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur on December 4-6, December 2013, is focused on the UG medical students interested in research from Medical Colleges in Nagpur and nearby areas such as Wardha, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Nanded, Jalna and Dhule. The workshop is aimed at strengthening research capabilities of the students and should help them to draft a research proposal for STS. The program, which is sponsored by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), requires full time attendance.

The topic that are covered in the Workshop are Study designs, biostatistics, commonly used statistical software, data management, medical ethics, GCP and GCLP, clinical protocol development, RCT, drafting and submission of research proposal to funding agencies and communication skills.

Students are given the task to independently formulate a clinical protocol on simple topics such bioavailability if iron from an oral iron preparation, testing of immunogenicity of influenza vaccines and prevalence of hypertension in communities. Lab medicine demonstrations cover basic techniques used in protein and DNA biology and immunology that are commonly used in Clinical Research.
