The following are the highlights of Union Budget 2013:
- Ministry of Health and Family Welfare gets a budget allocation of Rs 37,330 crore
- New National Health Mission to get Rs 21,239 crore
- Medical education, training and research gets Rs 47,027 crore
- Increase in budget allocation for Ministry of Agriculture by 22 percent to Rs 27,049 crore
- Agriculture research gets Rs 3415 crore
- Government plans to bring "Nutrifarms" to increase new crop varieties
Rs 200 crore allocated to start pilot for the nutri rich crops like iron rich bajra
- Setting up of Indian Institute of Biotechnology for Agriculture in Ranchi
- Setting up of National Institute of Biotic Stress Management to address plant protection issues at Raipur, Chhattisgarh
- Allocation of Rs 500 crore for crop diversification program and promote technological innovation
- Rs 1,069 crore to Department of AYUSH
- Rs 6275 crore allocated to Department of Science and Technology
