With an aim to translate advances in tissue engineering into useful solutions for the therapeutic treatment of chronic wounds, the Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has provided financial assistance to Gujarat-based Orthograft for a project titled "Production Setup of Advanced Tissue Derived Biological Dressings".
In collaboration with TDB, the company will establish the capability to manufacture indigenous organic dressings for clinical wound treatment applications, including chronic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers and burns.
Orthograft is a DPIIT accredited medical device startup engaged in developing tissue alternatives for diagnostic reconstruction and functional repair. The company is developing its own specialised technology to process viable human tissue into long-term safe tissue alternatives. At the same time, it also maintains the key biological and structural characteristics of the parent tissue relevant to the wound healing process.
With the support of TDB, Orthograft will strengthen its production infrastructure at the Gujarat government's Savli Technology Business Incubator in Vadodara, where the company has rented a bio-incubation facility.
The company has also obtained necessary licenses from CDSCO for manufacturing of medical devices for testing purposes. At the same time, it is exploring the possibilities of collaboration with tertiary care hospitals and medical institutions for further development and clinical use of the technology.
The company has developed multifaceted expertise in tissue processing and tissue replacement and currently holds two approved US patents.
