During the year 2012-13, a total of eight students were admitted to MSc biotechnology program, based on the all India entrance examination conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University. The department has adopted semester system. It has also signed MoUs with most of the ICAR and CSIR institutes of the region for networking projects, use of lab facilities and registering their research fellows for PhD. The activities of the department are focused on quality teaching program at MSc and PhD level including the execution of major research projects in selected areas. The course work has been condensed into first three semesters and the final semester being left solely for project/thesis work.

The department has one professor, two associate professors, and three assistant professors as regular faculty members. The department has all modern facilities for carrying out research and teaching. Since 2008, 18 research papers from the department have been published in the national journals and 42 research papers have been featured in international journals.
