The department of biosciences at Saurashtra Universty offers both masters as well as PhDs in molecular biology and biotechnology. Situated in Rajkot, the university sees an almost equal number of students from urban and rural backgrounds attend its courses. The University has a large number of visiting faculty members to impart training and education, most of whom hold PhDs with more than five years of experience. There are five labs that are dedicated to bioscience students, each of them having a capacity for about 25 students.

Based on the research conducted by faculty members, the department has published 15 research articles in international journals since June 2011, an increase from the 10 papers that were published the year before. The members of the faculty have also contributed to six chapters in books and journals since 2010. More than a third of the students who passed out in the previous academic year chose to pursue higher studies.
