I completed my MTech (2008-2010) in biotechnology from Amity University, Noida and currently I am working with United Biotech, a WHO certified Pharmaceutical Formulations Company in India. The biotechnology sector in India is young and dynamic. The Indian biotechnology segment is one of the fastest growing knowledge-based sectors and is playing a key role in shaping India's economy. But, when we compare our biotechnology industry with countries like Denmark, Sweden or Finland-to name a few-who have dedicatedly been developing their biotechnology sector for several decades, we have to admit that we are still in infancy stage.

The reason that made me up take up biotechnology was to bring significant benefits to society in terms of sustainable and affordable healthcare solutions. But I strongly feel that there are still many challenges which we need to face and overcome. The first and most significant challenge is to provide appropriate direction to the under-graduates about this subject and what are the future prospects of the same. Also the students are not aware of what they are going to do or where they are going to land up after completing a course in biotechnology. As per my experience, I can say that there is no dearth of talent in our country, but what we really need to address is how to use that talent.

Our country is doing well in information technology and we want the same for biotechnology. And for that to happen, what we need is persistent and determined efforts.
