ICMR to hold three day workshop on SPSS use for data analysis

The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) located at Ayapakkam, Chennai is one of the permanent institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The institute has vast experience in teaching and training of medical doctors,  scientists and research investigators in the appropriate use and application of statistical methods.

The three workshop  to be organized at the department of biostatistics in December, 2013, is designed for those who intend to use SPSS for their data analysis. The objective is to promote better understanding of logical handling of statistical data, properly representing the data using simple diagrams, methods to produce basic tables and data analysis using SPSS.

The medical doctors, scientists, researchers and/or investigators of research projects, M.Phil/PhD program or a researcher from the field of social science / management / medicine, project member of an NGO, public health officials, and employees from industries who need to conduct quantitative data analysis as part of their work are eligible to apply.

The programme will consist of class-room teaching and practical hands-on experience. Introduction, Type of input formats, variable types of data, labeling, defining categorical - ordered and dummy variables, transformation, computation, manipulation of records, managing multiple response, importing and exporting data files, exporting outputs, frequencies, descriptive, cross tables, simple diagrams and basic procedure for statistical data analysis. Simple statistical tests using parametric and non parametric methods. Syntax files and manipulation of syntax files and use of help menu will be given of special emphasis.

Faculty will consist of experienced and dedicated staff members of this Institute.
The Course will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants. The enrolment will be on the basis of first-come first-serve basis.
