R&D magazine honored ACQUITY UPC2

Waters Corporation (WAT: NYSE) declared that R&D magazine recongnized the Waters ACQUITY UPC2 system as one of the most technologically significant product introduced in the marketplace over the past year.

The ACQUITY UPC2 System is the first in a new class of separations tools based on the technology of UltraPerformance Convergence ChromatographyTM (UPC2). "We are overwhelmed that the ACQUITY UPC2 system was applauded by the R&D magazine 51st annual R&D 100 Awards", told Art Caputo, President, Waters Division. Further he added "Since its introduction , ACQUITY UPC2 adoption spans all the markets we serve - including pharmaceuticals, food, environment, chemical materials, and clinical research applications."  The sysytem is competing along with liquid and gas chromatography as one of the three integral technologies for modern laboratory analysis.

As an orthogonal technique to LC and GC, the ACQUITY UPC2 System is an efficient, robust, and reliable technique that employs compressed carbon dioxide, rather than organic solvents, as the primary mobile phase constituent and thus is a greener alternative for many applications - both chiral and achiral - across many industries. The technique is said to be suitable for a diverse range of compounds including most organic soluble compounds, salts of organic acids and bases, small lipoohilics peptides and non-polar solutes.

Laboratories accessing the technique at present are realising it to be ideally suited for chiral separations and a great substitute for solvent-hungary normal phase LC. So far Waters has won six previous R&D 100 awards. The annual R&D 100 award competition organised by R&D magazine honors 100 most technologically significant products introduced in the past 12 months.
