FUJIFILM Medical Systems announces new COO and CMO

FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA has announced that Dr Johann Fernando and Dr Diku Mandavia will join the executive leadership team. Dr Johann was named chief operating officer and Dr Diku was named chief medical officer effective September 28, 2015.

"Their broad experience and proven success in the industry will support our efforts to increase customer focus and innovation, enhance strategic and tactical execution, and accelerate growth."

As chief operating officer, Dr Fernando will provide day-to-day leadership and management for Sales, Medical Informatics and Modality Solutions Divisions, Business Operations, and Service to help achieve the company's sales and profitability goals and establish sustainable growth. He also leads the effort to expand our Healthcare IT business and drive collaboration across business units. Trained as a medical imaging physicist, Johann has worked in positions of increased responsibility and leadership with Picker and Marconi Medical Systems, Agilent Technologies, ADAC Labs and Philips Healthcare. Most recently he was vice president and general manager for Accuray. Dr Fernando has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and a PhD in Radiology Imaging from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

As chief medical officer for FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA and FUJIFILM SonoSite, Dr Mandavia will provide strategic leadership for the healthcare portfolio efforts by overseeing a growing list of activities related to patient care, medical professional networking, and health systems interaction. He joined FUJIFILM SonoSite, as a medical advisor in 2007, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Southern California, and was an Attending Staff Physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. He is also a founding member and past chair of the ACEP Ultrasound Section, taught thousands of physicians worldwide, lectured at over 150 national and international conferences, has contributed to over 90 publications, and is co-director of the National Resuscitation Conference. He received his medical degree from Memorial University in Canada, and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program.
