A team of Shri Ramkrisha Netralaya doctors have claimed to develop Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) which is more effective and benefitting than the current techniques of the fitting lens. It becomes part of the eye and does not need wearing or removal like regular contact lenses.
The doctors have mentioned in a statement that ICL is a refractive implant to correct common vision issues like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. It corrects vision without the removal of any corneal tissue and can be removed if needed. It has quick results, offers UV protection, is undetectable once in place, can treat myopia, Hyperopia, and astigmatism.
ICL is an alternative to other refractive surgeries, laser-ssisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK), incisional surgeries, or other means to correct myopia or hyperopia such as contact lenses and eyeglasses.
