Book on “Knee Osteoarthritis” by Indian surgeons released at BIOS conference

This book “Knee osteoarthritis-clinical update”, edited by renowned orthopaedic surgeon and medical researcher Prof. (Dr.) Raju Vaishya extensively describes various modes of non-operative treatment of knee OA

World renowned knee surgeon, Professor AA Shetty launched a book on Knee Osteoarthritis in a ceremonial function organized last weekend during the annual conference of British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS) in Leicester, England.

On this occasion several orthopaedic surgeons were present including President of Indian Orthopaedic Association Prof. Rajesh Malhotra, president of BIOS Prof. Gautam Chakrabarty. Prof. (Dr.) Vaishya also delivered the guest lecture on ‘3D printing’ and ‘Research in clinical practice.’

Speaking about the book “Knee osteoarthritis-clinical update”, Professor AA Shetty said, “I congratulate the editor and the authors for producing a comprehensive monograph on knee osteoarthritis. This book is a comprehensive book containing scientific literature on various aspects of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, along with citations of many illustrative and exciting cases. It deals with the complete spectrum of this disease, explaining the basics to the most advanced information about the knee OA. The book has been compiled and edited extremely well and should be of great help to geriatric physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and nurses as well as to postgraduate students in orthopaedics and researchers.

Editor of this book, Prof. (Dr.) Vaishya told that he believes that this book will certainly help medical students and professionals in the field gain in-depth knowledge. This book extensively describes various modes of non-operative treatment of knee OA, the role of physiotherapy in OA, various modalities used in physiotherapy, orthotic devices used to assist or restrict motion, nutraceuticals, the use of pain-relieving medications and intraarticular Injections. Surgical and non-surgical management of knee OA is extensively presented in this book. The recent developments in implant designs and surgical techniques have been covered in an exclusive chapter. These include custom Implants, coated Implants, gender-specific Implants, high flexion knees, unicompartmental arthroplasty, computer-assisted (CAS) navigation system, patient-specific total knee arthroplasty and robot-assisted navigation.

Dr. Raju Vaishya is well-known researchers in the Orthopaedic community of India. He has more than 350 publications to his credit, in the various reputed International and National journals and has also authored many books and chapters. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the reputed Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma. Also, he is on the Editorial Board and Reviewer of several other well- known medical journals.

Dr. Raju Vaishya is also working as Senior Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi. He is also the President of Arthritis Care Foundation and Indian Cartilage Society. Dr. Vaishya is also the recipient of several other distinguished awards like Dr. B.C. Roy Oration Award and Gold medal, Siemens-GAPIO innovation award in Medicine, Pride of Asia International Award, Vijaya Raje Scindia Excellence award, Professor’s gold medal for the best research at Oswestry, University of Birmingham, UK and the Best Researcher IRJULA title awards. The world famous Royal College of Surgeons of England had also conferred on him FRCS.
