Fortis, Mulund organizes a seminar for kidney disease patients & transplant recipients

Over 100 Kidney disease patients & transplant recipients participate in ‘World Kidney Day’ celebrations organized by the Kidney Support Group of Fortis Hospital, Mulund.

World Kidney Day observed every year in March, is aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of Kidney health and to bring down the impact of Kidney disease. In India, 1 in 10 people are estimated to suffer from some form of Kidney disease, and around 175,000 are predicted to suffer from Kidney Failure, requiring Kidney Transplant or Dialysis. Keeping to the year’s theme, ‘Kidney health for everyone everywhere’, the Kidney Support Group of Fortis Hospital, Mulund organized a seminar for patients undergoing dialysis, waitlisted patients, along with past donors and their families.

Over 200 attendees participated in the seminar, which comprised of creative session, drawing competitions, skits, singing and dance. Dr Haresh Dodeja, Consultant Nephrologist at the hospital addressed the participants on Kidney health, Kidney Transplants, its advantages and processes. Noted Marathi actor, Rahul Shirsat who has himself undergone a Kidney Transplant at the hospital, lent support to the initiative and his team performed skits on organ donation.

Speaking about this initiative Dr Haresh Dodeja, Nephrologist, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, "Annually, Fortis Hospital Mulund & Kalyan treats hundreds of patients suffering from end stage renal failure. When it comes to treatment of patients with organ failure, transplant is a better and cost effective treatment option in comparison to Dialysis. With increasing numbers, it is imperative that we build awareness about Kidney care amongst the community as a whole. Spotting the symptoms, timely doctor consultation and prompt treatment is the best line of action."
