The Telangana government is planning to launch its own state-wide brand of diagnostic services called Telangana Diagnostics. It will operate under financial assistance from Centre’s National Health Mission. For manpower to execute the programme, the State plans to use its own staff to ferry samples collected at PHCs to the mini-hub. Subsequently, a professional agency will be hired to carry them to the diagnostic hub.

Trials are under way to test the delivery model behind the State’s planned diagnostic services, at the Institute of Preventive Medicine in Narayanguda.  The studies have shown that a sizeable percentage of low-income groups are unable to avail themselves of diagnostic services in public healthcare despite the existence of such facilities at tertiary hospitals in Hyderabad.

To provide healthcare services to that uncovered population, around 30 diagnostic investigations will be provided at the hub free of charge. The hub diagnostic centres will also provide X-ray and imaging services, but the State plans to introduce more advanced imaging techniques like CT scan in future.
