Toshiba America Medical Systems has announced that its Kalare R&F digital X-ray system with the dynamic flat panel detector (FPD) has received FDA clearance.

The enclosed table design of the Kalare FPD R&F system may reduce scatter radiation by up to 95 percent, optimizing safety for patients and staff. Its 17" x 17" size provides quality images edge-to-edge without an increase in dosage. This design also helps reduce panning time for examinations requiring fluoroscopy, such as a barium swallow, and eliminates periphery image distortion, leading to higher image quality and better diagnoses.

"Adding an FPD to the Kalare enables clinicians to obtain more information from the images faster, resulting in quicker, more accurate patient diagnoses. But beyond the clinical benefits, this technology offers these improvements in conjunction with a far safer environment for both patient and provider," said Mr David Sloop, director, X-ray vascular business unit, Toshiba.
