Covidien has announced the expansion of its Sonicision Cordless Ultrasonic Dissection Device portfolio, following US Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) clearance of three additional device lengths: 13 cm, 26 cm, and 48 cm.
"Covidien is a pioneer in developing energy-based medical devices and the Sonicision system's groundbreaking cordless technology continues to transform how minimally invasive surgery is performed," said Mr Chris Barry, president, advanced surgical, Covidien. He added, "These new device lengths enable surgeons to use Sonicision technology in a more diverse range of surgical procedures while avoiding the need for cords and separate generators."
The Sonicision system is the only cordless ultrasonic dissection device currently available in the market. It is used in a wide variety of general, bariatric, colorectal, gynecological, and urological surgical procedures. The new device lengths allow surgeons to expand their use of the Sonicision system to an increasing number of procedures, including pediatric colectomy, splenectomy, and appendectomy.
