A Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) facility for COVID-19 was inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) recently by the Institute’s Director Prof V. Ramgopal Rao.

The facility will be operated by JITM Skills, which will use the RAT kit developed by IIT-D. The test report will be available in 5-10 minutes. IIT-D beneficiaries will have to pay Rs. 50 for this test.

The RAT kit, which has been developed by Prof. Harpal Singh from the Center for Biomedical Engineering, IIT-D is found to have a Sensitivity- 90%, Specificity- 100%, and Accuracy- 98.99% as certified by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). These are among the best available values for any such test kits in the world.

There is already a RT-PCR sample collection facility on the campus for COVID-19 test, which uses the testing kit based on the technology developed by IIT-D researchers.
