Dr Murali Panchapagesa Muthuswamy, the Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women Society located in Siruseri, Chennai announced the four categories of the 3rd Women in Biotech Awards to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, 2023.
Dr Deepanwita Chattopadhyay, Chairperson, IKP Knowledge Park, has been chosen for the Life Time Achievement Award.
Dr Ezhil Subbian, Co-founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based String Bio has been chosen as the Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2023.
The Woman Scientist of the year 2023 has gone to Dr Humira Sonah, Ramalingaswamy Fellow ( Scientist D) at the DBT-National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali Punjab.
The Special Jury Award for the Most Innovative Woman Biotech Entrepreneur in Tamil Nadu is given to Vedavalli Sankaranarayanan, founder and CEO of Plasmaart Resto, incubated at the Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women, Chennai. The company has developed an innovative stem cell therapy in Tamil Nadu.
The eminent jury was chaired by Dr Renu Swarup, former Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi along with other jury members, coordinated by the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), including Dr Jitendra Kumar, Director, Bangalore Bioinnovation Center (BBC), Dr Anand Anandkumar, Vice President & Treasurer, ABLE, Narayanan Suresh, COO, ABLE; and G S Krishnan, President, ABLE.
The annual Women in Biotech Awards was started by the Chairman Dr Murali Panchapagesa Muthuswamy in 2021 to recognise outstanding women leaders, scientists and entrepreneurs in biotechnology. The past winners include Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Dr Renu Swarup, Dr Gagandeep Kang and Dr Suchitra Ella. The Awards will be presented at a gala function and conclave in Chennai later this year.
