Govt allocates Rs 900 Cr for COVID-19 vaccine development

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman has announced a Rs 900 crore grant to the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) for research and development of COVID-19 vaccine.
As per the announcement, this amount is being provided for COVID suraksha mission, purely for R&D work.
The Minister has also highlighted that this amount does not cover the actual cost of vaccine, logistics & distribution expenses, which will be made separately as and when the vaccine is available.
