ICRISAT DG urges more research collaborations in pulses

During his recent trip to the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur which is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institute, Dr David J. Bergvinson, DG, ICRISAT, Hyderbad lauded the role of IIPR-ICRISAT collaborative research programmes.

Dr Bergvinson was highly appreciative of the research efforts, infrastructure and scientific strengths of the institute and desired to have more such fruitful collaborations in future. He also visited institute facilities and the experimental fields and interacted with scientists regarding experiments and ongoing research programmes.

During his visit on September 25, 2015, DG of ICRISAT also participated in the closing ceremony of the 21 days' summer school on "Novel Genomic Tools and Modern Breeding Approaches for Enhancing Productivity and Nutritional Quality of Pulse Crops" and exhorted the audience to strive more for global food and nutritional security.

Dr N P Singh, director, IIPR presented a brief about the Institute and explained various activities as well as significant achievements including those on the ICAR-IIPR-ICRISAT collaborative projects.

Dr B B Singh, assistant director general (Oilseeds and Pulses), ICAR; Dr Rajeev Varshney, research programme director, Grain Legumes, ICRISAT, Dr N P Singh, director, ICAR-IIPR and Dr K C Bansal, director, ICAR-NBPGR were also present on the occasion.
