The government has barred Greenpeace India from receiving foreign funds, alleging that it has prejudicially affected the economic interest of the state, says reports.

Its registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act or FCRA has also been suspended.

Reportedly, seven of its bank accounts have been frozen with the government alleging that the organization deliberately under-reported foreign contributions and used them in part to fund legal cases.

The government has also issued a showcause notice to the organization asking why it's registration should not be terminated.

The organization said that the government had moved again to block its access to nearly 150,000 euros that were transferred to it on March 23.

"Greenpeace is seeking legal advice in the matter as the Delhi high court in January had ordered that Greenpeace India be allowed to access funds sent by Greenpeace International," it said in a statement.
