ICAR organizes global nutrition conference at Bengaluru

The governor of Goa, Bharat Vir Wanchoo inaugurated the 'Global Animal Nutrition Conference' on 20 April,2014 at Bengaluru. The theme of the conference was 'Climate Resilient Livestock Feeding Systems for Global Food Security''

The importance of livestock sector in India's economy and livelihood security of marginal farmers cannot be underestimated. Keeping that in view, the global  animal nutrition conference organized at Bangalore, saw deliberations on the subject of improvement in animal nutrition. 

Dr S Ayyappan, Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR who presided over the function, asked the scientific and development agencies to address the wide gap in demand and supply of feed and fodder in the country.

Dr Ayappan mentioned further, "We have to tap new feed resources and improvise the utilisation of different agricultural byproducts as quality animal feeds."

This three day conference is being organised by 'Animal Nutrition Society of India' with the collaboration of National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturer's Association and VIV India. Matters related to novel feed resources, improving feed utilization , feed quality and ensuring food security in the changing climate scenario will be discussed during this global conference being attended by more than 400 delegates from India and abroad.

Dr Amrita Patel, Former Chairperson, NDDB, Dr Purvi Mehta-Bhatt from ILRI, Dr K.M.L Pathak, DDG (Animal Sciences) were the guests of honour.
