Two Doctors in this year's list of Padma awardees

Dr Viswanathan Shanta has been awarded Padma Vibhushan. Dr Shanta is a prominent cancer specialist and the chairperson of Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai. Her career has included organizing care for cancer patients and research in the prevention and cure of the disease. The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, the award is given for the exceptional and distinguished service.
Prof D Nageshwar Reddy has been awarded the Padma Bhushan award. Dr Reddy is the chief of Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Endoscopy, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, based in Hyderabad. The Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
