A research paper on keratinase and immune status published by the scientists from Annamalai University has been rated 1st among top 20 articles published during 2008 and till date, selected by BIOMEDICAL LIBRARY.

The research paper titled 'Industrial application of keratinase and soluble proteins from feather keratins' published by Dr B Deivasigamani and Dr KM Alagappan of Centre for Advanced Studies in Marine Biology, Annamalai University was published in the November 2008 issue of the journal, Journal of Environmental Biology.

In the paper, the researchers have shown how to degrade the poultry feather wastes (insoluble protein) to soluble protein. The crude protein from feather was found to be of high nutrient value and could be used as animal feed for livestock and fish feed in aquaculture.
