ASSOCHAM to organize BIO-AGRI 2013

Among the oldest apex chambers of the country, ASSOCHAM has been involved in promotion of innovative practices and technological interventions in agriculture over a period of time now.. The industry body in order to pursue the goal of agricultural development, is organizing BIO-AGRI 2013 at New Delhi on July 03, 2013. Themed as "Towards Productive Efficiencies and Farmers Growth", the summit will see the deliberations happening on the R&D, technical innovations, investments, policy guidance, market outlook, prospects for international cooperation in research & development,

The ASSOCHAM has decided to host this summit in the backdrop of the 12th five year plan that stressed on need for a greater technical thrust and the strategy for agriculture. The notification from ASSOCHAM quotes the statement from planning commission that mentioned, "In order to provide scientific focus to some of the critical areas, research consortia platforms are to be launched in seed, diagnostics and vaccines, nanotechnology, bio-fortification, agri-incubators, water, natural fibers, health foods, hybrids, secondary agriculture, farm mechanization, precision farming and energy, genomics, molecular breeding and agro-biodiversity."

The main objectives include the creation of platform to discuss challenges and enabling solutions for promoting biotechnology, keep the business world in general and delegates in particular abreast about emerging opportunities for investment in BioAgri sector in India, and sharing bio-tecnologies and services towards increasing agricultural efficiency to meet challenges. The summit is also expected to witness deliberation on PPP or other new business models for thwarting investments in Bio-agriculture.

As per the industry body, "Agriculture continues to be backbone of developing economies including India for its vital role in providing food, feed, fibre, fuel and livelihood for the world's 800 million people who suffer from hunger and poverty. Of the many strategies that have been forwarded to address the issues related to productive efficiencies and farmer's growth, biotechnology with its potential and promises is one answer for providing food and nutritional security to the ever-expanding population."
