Dr Ashok Seth, Bill and Melinda Gates get Padma Bhushan awards

The NDA government announced the Padma Awards on Sunday with well known cardiologist Dr. Ashok Seth conferred with Padma Bhushan award. Over the past 20 years he has pioneered a number of angioplasty techniques in India and the Asia Pacific region. Along with him, Microsoft chief Bill Gates and his wife Melinda were selected for Padma Bhushan for their contribution in the space of HIV vaccine, as well as new intensive drugs to combat the disease.

Well known Gynaecologist, Obstetrician & Laparoscopic Surgeon from Hyderabad Dr. Manjula Anagani leads the Padma Shri award list in the Medicine category. Others in the list includes, Randeep Guleria, currently the Professor and Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorders at AIIMS; Lords Hospital Chairman Dr. K. P. Haridas from Kerala; Dr. Rajesh Kotecha 'Vaidya', Vice Chancellor, Ayurveda Physician, Gujarat Ayurvedic University,Gujarat; Chairman and Chief Interventional Cardiologist at Apex Heart Hospital Dr. Tejas Patel; surgeon Dr Narendra Prasad from Bihar; Prof. (Dr.) Yog Raj Sharma, Chief of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS; Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Professor of Endocrinology, AIIMS; Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori a noted Indian Radiation Oncologist, USA; Prof (Dr) Yogesh Kumar Chawla from Chandigarh; Jayakumari Chikkala of Delhi but hailing from AP, Dr Ambrish Mithal from Delhi; Dr Hargovind Laxmishanker Trivedi, Gujarat; Dr Raghu Rama Pillarisetti, USA; Dr Saumitra Rawat, UK and Dr Sarungbam Bimola Kumari Devi from Manipur.

This year government honored 104 persons with Padma Awards. These include nine Padma Vibhushan, 20 Padma Bhushan and 75 Padma Shri awardees. The award will be given at a function later in the year.
