Last two days to send comments on Human DNA Profiling bill

Given the huge population of India and the repercussions of unregulated profiling of human Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid (DNA) by numeruous laboratories, the DBT under union science and technology ministry has come up with the 37 page draft of the national 'Human DNA Profiling Bill 2015'.

Under the same, it is looking at establishing the DNA Profiling Board that will look into the regulations of DNA profiling. The Board will lay down the standards for the laboratories, collection of human body substances, custody trial from collection to reporting and also to establish the National DNA Data Bank for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Since, there has been a good response to the DBT's earlier circular seeking comments on the bill from various stakeholders, it has now extended the deadline to send the same by September 10, 2015 upto 5:30 PM.

Once the draft is finalized after final consultations, it will be then eventually tabled in the Parliament by government for further discussions and approval by lawmakers. The Human DNA Profiling Act 2015 as it would be called, has jurisdiction over entire country and will be enforced through Gazette notification by the central government once ratified by the Parliament.
