Mumbai now has a multi-super-specialty tertiary care hospital that is one of India's leading hospital chains in complex surgeries and multi-organ transplantation. The Global Hospitals Group with experience and expertise of performing successfully over 600 Liver transplants at its world class hospitals at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, has opened its doors for liver transplant patients at its state-of-the-art Mumbai Hospital facility at Parel.

Mr Nikunj Kapadia, a 67 year old Mumbai based businessman was the first patient to get a new lease of life through Liver Transplant at Global Hospitals Mumbai. Mr Kapadia was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis and only option available to him was through a Liver Transplant surgery. Mr Nikunj patiently had to wait for a Cadaver Donor before his son Mr Munjal Kapadia, aged 36 years decided to donate a portion of his liver to him.

Dr K Ravindranath , CMD of Global Hospitals Group said, "At Global Hospitals Group, all of us share a common vision, which is to be a world-class medical services provider turning distant possibilities into today's realities. We constantly innovate and pioneer path-breaking healthcare services that are revolutionary and advanced; to cater to the healthcare needs of the diverse and ever evolving populace".

It is estimated that about 2 lakh people are diagnosed with end stage liver disease per year and about 0.02% population (25000) need liver transplants per year. The need of the hour is to increase awareness about organ donation.

"Our aim is to provide excellence in patient care. Excellence is not just defined by the number of surgeries or transplants we have performed, it is about providing highest possible quality of care and service on a consistent basis and making a difference to the lives of the patients who visit us. We aim to provide the same kind of care to the people of Mumbai", said Prof. Mohamed Rela, director, HPB & Liver Transplant Program, Global Hospitals Group.

Global Hospitals was one of the very first to start liver transplant programs in India and is the only Group which has sustained the program since 2003 and has over a decade of experience, including more than 600 liver transplants for both adult and pediatric.
