India gets $500 mn from GAVI for immunization programme
GAVI will provide $500 million for the next five years
Gavi, the vaccine alliance has committed to offer $500 million to the Indian government over the next five years for supporting immunization programme in the country, says reports.
Created in 2000, Gavi is an international organisation - a global vaccine alliance, bringing together public and private sectors with the shared goal of creating equal access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the world's poorest countries.
Additional Secretary, Health, Mr C K Mishra said that Gavi Board that monitors vaccine implementation programme will provide $500 million to support the government for next five years.
"Gavi Board last week approved our proposal which was being doubted all over. According to the proposal, they will give $500 million over the next five years. The major vaccines we are looking forward to support with this amount are rotavirus, measles-rubella, PCV vaccine and also as when we decide to introduce HPV," he said in a statement.
