CSIR must commercialize at least 12 technologies each year: Minister

Addressing a two day 'Director's Conference' of CSIR, being held at CSIR-IIP, Dehradun on the second day (June, 13), the minister of state for science and technology, Mr Y S Chaudhary mentioned that 10 to 15 spin off startup companies should emerge every year from industrialization of CSIR research projects. The minister said as of now there is a perception that our scientific research is not being guided by national priorities.

Mr Chowdary called upon all CSIR labs to map their resources, list out bottlenecks and anomalies to bring about a positive change and come up with a vision document for a guided action now. He urged directors of the CSIR to come up with at least 12 cutting edge technologies which are to be commercialized every year.

Earlier the union minister for science and tecchnology, Dr Harsh Vardhan chairing the two day conference, heard all presentations from various CSIR Institutes. He pointed out that a brainstorming session towards the end of the conference would identify various projects to be taken up by CSI Institutes for the welfare of poor and for a bright future of India as envisaged by the Prime Minister.

The director general, CSIR, Mr M O Garg and various directors from all CSIR Institutes attended the conference.
