FICCI has mentioned in its report, 'Vision 2030' that the government, on its part could consider supporting this vision by creating a conducive environment for the industry to undertake the above actions.

The industry body has listed four imperatives for the government:

1. Build an enabling regulatory environment to facilitate the "ease of doing business" by providing clarity on guidelines in areas like clinical trials, approval pathway for different product categories.

2. Help improving the quality standards by strengthening the capacity/capability of quality inspectors and harmonizing the quality framework with global guidelines.

3. Ensure India's self-sufficiency by helping enhance competitiveness of the local API industry by setting up a dedicated API/intermediate manufacturing cluster with resource sharing and incentives.

4. Create a conducive environment for innovation by strengthening the local talent/research base at top academic institutions and enhancing incentives for investments in R&D.
