Biotech
Clusters of India
Maharashtra continues to
dominate
Though the biotech industry is well spread across the country, the
western and southern regions of the country continued to account for 85
percent of the total revenues generated by companies headquartered in
these clusters. Each of these two regions generated in excess of $1
billion in revenues in 2008-09. Out of the two regions, the West with
revenues of Rs 5,260.84 crore was ahead of the southern cluster with
43.35 percent share. While the west region’s contribution was
led by Serum Institute of India, Biocon and Panacea lead the revenue
contributions from the south and the north, respectively.
