Top agriculture scientists discuss the role of biotechnology in improving horticulture

The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) organized a national seminar on horticultural biotechnology (NSHB) 2013- with the objective to take stock of current research in biotechnology and draw a roadmap for future thrusts in horticulture crops in the country.

Dr N K  Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi spearheaded the deliberations categorized under seven theme areas, viz., molecular markers, transgenic technology, allele mining and gene cloning, molecular diagnostics, and regeneration systems.

On this occasion Dr Kumar also addressed the media and briefed about the ongoing activities and progress of biotechnological work being carried out in India. Leading biotechnologists of the country also flagged important issues that merited immediate attention as well as long-term strategic planning.

More than 150 participants working on biotechnological aspects in horticultural crops participated in the seminar.
