DHR invites suggestions for fresh approach on health issues

The Department of Health Research is proposing to set up of a Medical Technology Assessment Board (MTAB) for the evaluation on the appropriateness and cost-effectiveness of medical technologies, interventions and procedures for introduction/procurement for introduction into the public health system (central/state) of India in the short/medium/longterm. The proposed methodology includes extracting available evidence and gather other relevant data/information available in the public domain, discussion with all stakeholders and finally evaluation by expert group(s).

Suggestions are invited on identifying top health problems of widest national importance so that technologies, drugs, diagnostics, devises, health interventions etc. related to them may be focused on priority that are critical for providing affordable health care.

A consolidated list compiled with inputs from all stakeholders will be examined by a group of experts for identifying top ten public health problems on which guidelines for appropriate use of technologies/drugs/vaccines are needed for the country.

The overall objective of this endeavour is to devise a robust system for generating credible evidence on the available/new health products and other interventions for their cost effectiveness/appropriateness for use in the public health system in India. The suggestion (not exceed 300 words) may be sent by mail /uploaded at htab@icmr.org.in on or before March 31,.2014.
