Finally the government has decided to take a call on filling the top scientific leadership positions in India. It has initiated a search for a suitable person to serve as the secretary to lead the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and as a major visionary contributor in shaping the future of Indian Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). As per notification from Cabinet Secretariat, the nominations of suitable candidates have been invited from thought leaders of the Indian STI sector. The nominee is expected to connect the cause of the Indian STI sector with resources and be an innovation leader working at the interface areas of governance, public policy, society and science.

The government has also initiated a search process for the selection of a suitable candidate for the appointment of director general (DG) of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and who will also be the secretary to the government of India, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) . The DG-CSIR is a coveted scientific position with a key role in the transformation of industrial research and development in the country. Therefore, the nominations have been invited from thought leaders in the the Indian science and industrial sectorwith a focus on R&D in application and technology related areas.

The nominations for these top positions can be sent directly to Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi.

Established on May 03, 1971, DST has emerged as a nodal department of the Government of India (GoI) for building national capacity and capability in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). DST is an important extramural funding agency for scientific research in India.
DST nurtures 26 competitive research institutions through grants-in-aid, promotes innovations and entrepreneurship, engages in science communication and promotion of scientific temper and aggressively pursues the social contract of S&T. In short, DST strives to add
foundational values for the Indian STI sector with a focus on excellence and relevance.

The CSIR, was established on September 26,1942 as India's premier chain of national laboratories. In 2014, CSIR has emerged as a chain of 38 laboratories located across the length and breadth of India with about
3900 scientists and total staff and student strengths of 16000 and 5000, respectively. CSIR is India's flagship for industrial research and development and holder of the largest number of patents and other intellectual properties in force.
