ICMR seeks interest for course on computational tools in medical sciences

The division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (central computation), Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology (ICPO), is organizing a course on the importance of computational biology in medical field from August, 6 to 8, 2013 at its campus in New Delhi. The institute that is part of Department of Health Research (DHR), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), aims to expose the medical researchers and professionals to statistical softwares.

The contents of the course titled as 'application of statistical softwares in medical research' includes data collection tools, types of data, type of studies, introduction to commonly used statistical software, database creation, data manipulation/ transformation and importing external databases, descriptive statistics: calculating mean, standard deviation, reporting frequencies, graphical representation of medical data. IT also focuses on testing hypothesis including parametric tests: (independent t test, paired t test, ANOVA) and non-parametric tests: (Mann Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed ranked test), correlation and overview of regression models -Linear, Multiple, binary and multinomial logistic regressions, epidemiological tests (Sensitivity, Specificity, ROC, incidence, prevalence, ratio, proportions, rates etc.), agreement analysis, Also provided will be the sample size determination and hands on training on all topics in various Statistical Softwares (SPSS, Epi-info,etc.)

The enrollment may be made by paying the course fee that has been kept as low as Rs 2000. before 30th July, 2013. The number of participants for the course is limited to 30 and enrollment is purely on first come first served basis.
