The members of OSDD community must be happy to know that the total community members who have registered on Sysborg is now 7074 from 130 countries.The increasing numbers as per the team heading the initiative shows wide acceptance of OSDD across nations.They feel that the active and serious scientific discussions on Sysborg reflects the seriousness of the community in realizing the vision of OSDD.

In his recent interaction with the BioSpectrum, Dr Samir K Brahmachari, director general, CSIR and chief mentor, OSDD, said, "According to me affordable healthcare is a right for all. And the OSDD has been doing an outstanding job and infact a best example where India has taken a lead in engaging the researchers across world to share their knowledge and insights. I feel that it will surely lead to product development in some crucial disease that demand attention. The best part is that it is a barrier free innovation that will bear fruits for downtrodden of the society. "

The core funding of OSDD is from the government of India. For the period of September 2008 to March 2012 Government of India has earmarked Rs 45.96 Crores (about $12 million) for the project. The funds are used for funding the scientific projects, setting up infrastructure, and supporting ongoing activities of the project.

OSDD led by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is a concept to collaboratively aggregate the biological, genetic and chemical information available to scientists in order to use it to hasten the discovery of drugs. This will provide a unique opportunity for scientists, doctors, technocrats, students and others with diverse expertise to work for a common cause. The consortium with global partnership with a vision to provide affordable healthcare to the developing world by providing a global platform where the best minds can collaborate and collectively endeavor to solve the complex problems associated with discovering novel therapies for neglected tropical diseases like Malaria, Tuberculosis, Leshmaniasis, etc.OSDD is a translational platform for drug discovery, bringing together informaticians, wet lab scientists, contract research organizations, clinicians, hospitals and others who are willing to adhere to the affordable healthcare philosophy.
