In India, the life sciences division of GE Healthcare is headquartered in Chennai with offices in all major cities and employs 45 specialized staff in sales, service and application support. Recently, a life sciences research and training laboratory was set up in Bangalore. GE Healthcare supplies chromatography media and equipment for all commonly used separation techniques. These include Capto - for high productivity capture; MabSelect for purification of monoclonal antibodies; Sepharose Fast Flow- for all general purpose separations; Columns - from prepacked, lab-scale; HiTrap columns, to production-scale Chromaflow columns; ÄKTAdesign systems - from lab bench to production hall; and UNICORN software – for control of all systems.

In membrane separations, GE Healthcare provides Hollow fiber cartridges and Kvick cassettes; ÄKTAcrossflow - the first fully automated pilot-scale system for development, optimization and scale-up; and UniFlux large-scale systems.

The company supplies the latest technology equipment, reagents and kits for proteomics, cellular and genomics work. These include InCell: cellular and subcellular imaging system; Typhoon: variable mode multi color imagers; CyDye DIGE Fluors: patented DIGE technology in protein analysis; Biacore: label free protein interaction analysis; and Illustra: range of nucleic acid purification kits.

GE Healthcare is all set launch a new India-specific, India-made 1.5-kg portable ECG, MAC 400, targeted at physicians and rural practitioners. Two more diagnostic imaging products would be introduced this year. The company now sources nearly 15 percent of its products from India, compared to half of this five years back. It has invested more than $100 million in India.
