Syngenta to set up second plant in India

Syngenta, the Indian subsidiary of the Swiss biotech major Syngenta Crop Protection has decided to set up a second plant at Goa. This new facility will function as a global sourcing hub for Syngenta Crop Protection. The plant will be engaged in the manufacturing of thiamethoxam, a general insecticide that can be used for most crops in the country including vegetables, rice and cotton.

Quoting Pradip Mazumdar, executive director, Syngenta Crop Protection, a report said the market in India will be small for the insecticide in the region of Rs 80-100 crore but internationally it has a huge market potential. The production in India will help to cut the costs significantly. The new plant will serve as an export hub for Syngenta in all the markets whether in the US, Europe, Asia or Latin America.

The other plant, also located, in Goa is engaged in the manufacturing of critical intermediates and active ingredients used in plant protection agents including insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. In the insecticides segment Syngenta currently has a stable of seven products including Vertimec, Curacron, Polytrin, Ekalux, Nuvan, Nuvacron and Karate. This particular product was being manufactured in Switzerland for global sales.
