The Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology (MUICT) offers
four-year degree courses in chemical engineering (BChem Engg), in
pharmacy (BPharm) and BTech in seven branches of chemical technology
(dyes, foods, oils, paints, polymer, pharmaceutical and textile).
Admission for all seats in India are filled by MUICT and the remaining
seats are filled by the directorate of technical education (DTE),
Government of Maharashtra. Admission for masters’ programs is
in-line with the UGC norms and GATE is required as an eligibility
criteria. For doctorate in engineering, technology, pharmacy and
sciences, UGC/CSIR norms are followed for usual UGC sponsored seats as
well as for endowment and other project positions. There are more than
200 merit-cum-mean scholarships by the alumni and industry.
The chemical engineering department of MUICT is
known as one of the best chemical engineering schools in the world.
There is a regular output of high quality research in the field of
multiphase reactors, catalysis, bio separation, enzyme technology,
environmental engineering, process intensification and process
development. The current research grants and interaction with
the industry during the year 2004-2005 was an all time high. The
faculty members obtain several research grants through prestigious
national institutions and international collaborative research
programs. Industrial consultancy is another unique feature of MUICT
faculty members. Many faculty members pay out their salaries through
the one-third share of the consultation fees to the university.
