Department of Biotechnology

The University of Burdwan occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. The university has been awarded with four star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge its contribution to the educational development of the state.
The department of biotechnology was established in the year 2003. From 2006 onwards, it got financial support from DBT. The department has six faculty members including one professor, one  lecturer and four others on a  contractual basis. The department also has a specialized laboratory for molecular biology, microbiology, tissue culture, protein chemistry, computer and bioinformatics, apart from two general labs for doing routine practicals as well as research work. A 24-hour internet facility is provided for students,research scholars and faculty members. The department has a library with approximately 600 biotechnology-related books.
