The Sartorius Group is a world-leading laboratory and process technology supplier covering the segments of biotechnology and mechatronics. Headquartered in the university town of Goettingen, Germany, Sartorius was founded in 1870. The company has the distinction of pioneering several developments and innovations, especially in laboratory weighing and separation technologies. Since 1996, Sartorius has not only expanded its operations globally spearheaded by seven group brands, but has also successfully positioned itself in three technologies of the 21st century – biotechnology, mechatronics and environmental technology. Sartorius India, the biotech subsidiary, plays a key role within Sartorius Group as one among four system manufacturing facilities for Sartorius worldwide (the other three are located in the US, Germany and Italy). Sartorius India's core engineering competence is in design, production, installation, commissioning, automation, integration, validation of fermentors and peripheral systems.

In India, Sartorius operates eight branches in key metro cities addressing customer's process chain in the pharma, biotech, laboratories, and food and beverage industries.

Sartorius India is planning to set up a dedicated campus in Bangalore at an investment of Rs 25 crore. The company intends to shift its entire operations from Peenya Industrial Area to its new location by Q3 in 2007.

Among the investments in 2006-07, the company has set aside Rs one crore each for its SAP implementation network project and an application lab in the present premises. While the SAP application gets live next year, the lab which is a customer training center in cell culture and down stream purification technologies, will be commissioned in September this year.

The mechatronics division of Sartorius India, Sartorius Mechatronics, encapsulates the consolidation of Sartorius technology and knowledge acquired from years of expertise from the other group companies such as Global Weighing and Boekels on one common platform. It enjoys the status of a global leader in weighing applications, precision, analytical weighing applications and industrial weighing with cutting edge technology in industrial loadcells, electronics, system engineering and process weighing solutions.
