Department of Microbiology

Bangalore University was established in July 1964 as an offshoot of the University of Mysore. Soon after the establishment of the Bangalore University, as a first step in the reorganization of courses of instructions, the university introduced honours courses in the year 1965-66. 
The MSc course in microbiology was introduced in Bangalore University in 1992, while the Department of Microbiology with an independent status was established in 1997. Since then, the department has steadily grown. In 1998, the department received grants from the UGC to start MSc course in biotechnology. Being the frontier field in science, the department spared no efforts to offer education and training in the field of biotechnology in the best possible way. Currently, the department is offering MSc and PhD courses in both microbiology and biotechnology and also coordinates MSc course in microbiology and biotechnology in about 64 affiliated colleges of Bangalore University.
