DSS Imagetech expanded its product range significantly and reshaped its business by entering into a JV with Takara Bio,Japan

DSS Imagetech provides cutting-edge technology solutions to researchers working in different areas of biotechnology. After an initial focus on microscopy, the company gradually expanded its product range and included application areas such as image analysis software systems, genetic workstation, DNA probes and microarray readers.

The company has now entered into the manufacturing of high-end molecular biology reagents.
In the FY 2010-11, the company registered a good growth rate with revenue touching to 116.84 crore as compared to 88.08 crore in the FY 2009-10.

On April 1, 2011, DSS Life Sciences, a division of DSS Imagetech  entered into a joint venture with the Japanese company Takara Bio and formed a new company known as DSS Takara Bio India. The joint venture is eying the opportunities arising out of increased research funding and the lack of manufacturing units in the country.

According to Dr Ushakar Nag, director, DSS Takara Bio India, “The JV is a milestone achievement for DSS and will take the company to a new dimension. It will bring the manufacturing technology of high end molecular biology reagents to India, thereby giving a competitive edge to Indian biological resea-rch. We plan to offer the diagnostic kits at a never-seen-before lowest price in India. I hope that this JV will be able to fill the void with a focus on kits.”

Micro-Imaging division being the oldest division of DSS is the backbone of the company. DSS enjoys a unique position as the most informed supplier of microscopes and digital imaging solutions in the country. DSS continues to provide training in the field of IHC, FISH and advanced imaging through its training division.

To tap the rapidly growing medical and surgical market in India, DSS recently set up its Medical Division and tied up with Olympus Medical Systems for their flexible gastroenterology and bronchoscopy products for North and East India.
