BPL Medical Technologies has acquired a majority shareholding in Medec, a European medical technology company, in a strategic technology acquisition that strengthens the company’s growth trajectory and advances its ambition to build a globally competitive medical technology organisation.
The acquisition marks an important step in BPL Medical Technologies’ strategy to strengthen its ownership of technology and product development capabilities while expanding its global presence. Medec brings advanced anaesthesia workstations and ventilators, along with three patents and a product development pipeline that includes an electronic vaporiser and a value engineered version of the Caelus anaesthesia workstation.
The transaction goes beyond expanding BPL Medtech’s product portfolio. It provides the company with greater control over product quality, functionality, technology and margins, while reducing its dependence on external suppliers for anaesthesia workstations and ventilators. The acquisition also brings specialised intellectual property and engineering capabilities into BPL Medical Technologies, creating further opportunities for technology development within its own ecosystem.
Medec also brings an established international commercial network, with an active distributor presence across more than 30 countries in Europe, MENA, Southeast Asia and Latin America. This gives BPL Medtech an expanded platform through which it can take Medec’s CE certified technologies to additional markets, supporting the company’s broader objective of developing a more globally connected medical technology business.
The acquisition also aligns with BPL Medical Technologies’ efforts to build capabilities across technology, innovation and digital health. As part of its medium term technology roadmap, BPL Medtech is exploring the integration of Medec’s technologies with its Cortex AI platform, potentially bringing together Medec’s anaesthesia capabilities with BPL Medical Technologies’ existing digital technology ecosystem.
