Partnership brings together clinical expertise, biomedical research, and advanced engineering capabilities

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, an Institution of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Elxsi, a global leader in design and technology services, to collaborate on the development of next-generation healthcare solutions.

The MoU was signed at SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram, in the presence of senior leaders from both organisations, including Dr Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, and Manoj Raghavan, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Elxsi, along with members of the healthcare, research, and technology leadership teams from both institutions.

The collaboration combines SCTIMST's strengths in cardiovascular sciences, neurosciences, biotechnology, and clinical sciences with Tata Elxsi's expertise in product engineering, design, AI, and digital technologies. Together, the organisations will address opportunities across diagnostics, medical imaging, digital health, biomedical engineering, medical devices, and related healthcare technologies for India and global markets.

Unlike traditional industry-academia engagements, the partnership creates an extended innovation and engineering environment for Tata Elxsi, its customers, and healthcare partners. It brings together clinicians, specialist researchers, advanced laboratories, prototyping infrastructure, and product engineering capabilities within a single collaborative ecosystem. This will enable MedTech companies to develop, validate, and scale new products more efficiently. The partnership also strengthens capabilities in biocompatibility, toxicology, and other areas.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint research, academic engagement, technology development initiatives, and intellectual property creation through project-specific collaborations. Initial efforts are expected to focus on identifying a select set of high-potential opportunities for collaborative development.
