Quantumzyme LLP, a Bengaluru-based startup, focused on clean and green chemistry has collaborated with Mumbai's BEC Chemicals to develop sustainable biotransformation and biocatalysis solution for the pharmaceutical industry.

The agreement grants both parties access to each other’s knowledge and expertise to develop novel solutions for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) development. Quantumzyme’s expertise in rapid enzyme discovery, enzyme engineering, and pilot validation into early-phase projects complements BEC Chemicals' experience and track record of over 30 commercial manufacturing chemical reactions run on a multi-ton scale. This will give either party customers access enzyme expertise and assets, resulting in cost-effective, green processing for API manufacturing.

Megha Shah, Managing Director of BEC Chemicals, stated, "Working with  Quantumzyme marks further advancement of BEC Chemicals' strategy towards technology partnerships to provide additional value to our customers while developing sustainable solutions to the industry."

Naveen Kulkarni, CEO of Quantumzyme, said, "While India is the global leader in API export, there is a need for early adopters to set examples for the industry to follow when it comes to new technologies. Traditionally India has always been home to complex chemistry and now the time has come to switch gears and leverage the advances and development in biotechnology for sustainable chemistry."
