The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has introduced a new scheme to promote participation of women in the field of science. DST and Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF) have jointly announced the Indo-US Fellowship for Women in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine).

According to the National Task Force on Women in Science report of the Department of Science and Technology, women form less than 25 percent of scientific faculty in various institutions and universities, except those under Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), which are basically engaged in biological research.

This program is designed to provide opportunities to Indian women scientists, engineers and technologists to undertake international collaborative research in premier institutions in the US to enhance their research capacities and capabilities.
