Sarmad will help Granules advance its environmental strategy
Hyderabad-based pharma manufacturing company Granules India has announced the appointment of Ovais Sarmad as an Advisor to the company, focusing on sustainability, climate policy, and environmental initiatives. Sarmad's role will help guide Granules India as it integrates sustainable practices across its business operations and enhances its climate strategy.
With over three decades of experience in global climate policy and sustainable development, Sarmad brings expertise to his new advisory position. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Steering Committee and served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 2017 to 2023. During his tenure at the UNFCCC, he played a key role in shaping landmark international climate agreements, including the Paris Agreement implementation guidelines, the finalization of Article 6 at the Glasgow Climate Summit, and the establishment of the Loss & Damage Fund at COP27.
Before his work at the UNFCCC, Sarmad held senior positions at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), including Chief of Staff and Director of Resources Management. His extensive experience in leading high-level international initiatives and shaping global climate policy positions him well to advise Granules on its sustainability journey.
In his advisory capacity, Sarmad will help Granules advance its environmental strategy, navigate the complex landscape of climate action, and implement corporate responsibility initiatives.
