Dr R M Anjana, President of Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and Managing Director of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, Chennai, has received the "Research Excellence Recognition Award” in the Best Extramural Paper category at the DHR-ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit, 2024, held as part of ICMR’s 113th Foundation Day celebrations, on 14 November.
The event was presided over by Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of States in the Health and Family Welfare, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
The summit honoured exceptional contributions of biomedical researchers recognizing their impactful publications and innovative advancements in health research.
Dr Anjana’s paper on the ICMR-INDIAB study published in the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology in June 2023 was selected for this prestigious award. Dr Anjana has published nearly 400 research papers and has an h-index of 81 and has been recognised as one of the top most young medical researchers and Scientists in the country by several agencies nationally and internationally. Her contributions in the field of Epidemiology and Physical Activity especially the evolution of ‘Thandav’ a High Interval Intensity Training (HIIT) activity involving dance as a method of preventing Non communicable diseases has been widely recognised nationally and internationally.
